Rossmoor PTA STEP IT UP Fundraiser

Is Off to a Great Start!

We want to shout out our Rossmoor Families for the support with our first PTA Fundraiser of the year!  The funds we are raising go to so many of our school programs.   Rossmoor’s PTA supports intervention efforts, instructional software programs, technology, field trips, school supplies, and so much more!  It truly takes a village and we appreciate everyone’s participation.

Rossmoor’s PEACE Project &

October’s Wellness Theme:  Bullying Prevention

We are so proud of our students and staff for making our PEACE Week a huge success! While the official PEACE Week may be over, we want to keep this great work going all school year. We are excited to share a variety of activities and resources with parents and students in an effort to continue to create an environment of peace here at Rossmoor where all of our students can feel safe and included as they learn.

This year we are building a new Peace Library that will be located in the Media Center. As part of the Rossmoor Peace Project, supported by a grant from Chapman University, students can find new books that talk about peace, global diversity, bullying prevention, kindness and much more. With the support of the PTA, we will also bring students together for an action-packed schoolwide assembly to discuss bullying prevention featuring professional BMX riders on Friday, October 14th.

Look out for more information and resources in the months ahead! For more information on the Peace Project, contact PTA Diversity Chair Whitney McIntyre Miller at wmcintyr@chapman.edu.  Our Wellness theme this month is focused on “Bullying Prevention.” Since 2006, October has been recognized as the National Bullying Prevention Month. The goal is for students to be able to understand the effects that bullying has, what bullying is and is not, and ways to be an “Upstander”. An upstander is someone who recognizes when something is wrong and does something to make it right by focusing on the 3 “R’s” – Recognize, Respond, and Report. Additionally, our Wellness Counselor (Mrs. Tina Heeren), will be going into each classroom giving lessons on the following topics to support the theme.

  • TK/Kinder: Handling name calling
  • 1st: Handling name calling
  • 2nd: Responding to playground exclusion
  • 3rd: Coping with negative peer pressure
  • 4thCoping with negative peer pressure
  • 5th: Coping with Gossip

Wellness at Home:
Here are two short read alouds you can watch with your child(ren) to further foster “Bullying Prevention”. We encourage you to watch together and have an open discussion about what these stories mean and how they connect with your Knight.

Make it a Great Week Knights,

Mrs. Coltey

We have a couple opportunities to volunteer and support Rossmoor and our Knights!

  • Garden Help: Our students will soon be planting and growing various plants in our school garden. To get the garden beds ready, we are asking for volunteers to meet up at the garden after school at 2:15 on Friday Oct. 7th and Oct. 14th to get the garden beds and surrounding areas cleaned out and prepped. We could use any volunteers including parents, kids and staff that want to help out. If volunteers could bring any garden tools they have, that would be greatly appreciated!

  • Carnival Volunteers Needed:  We need volunteers to help make our carnival a success!  Please see flyer below for details.

  • Carnival Sponsorship opportunities: Prices start at $250 and go up to $750. This is a great way to support the school and also advertise your business! More details are on our PTA website

The house with the most rolls will win house points!! Yay!!!!! Who will have the most??

Last week in STEM Lab:

The sky's the limit with these young architects!  Our Knights have been busy using their imaginations to build their dream houses.  We have been learning about how STEM applies to designing and building various structures.  Way to use your imaginations Knights!  Please see pictures below

This week’s PTA Volunteer of the Week is Amanda Luyben!

Amanda is mom to three Rossmoor Knights, Madalyn (4th grade), Connor (1st grade), and Bronson (TK)!

Amanda has jumped in to help PTA as our Kindergarten Liason and fill in with any task the school needs including Red Ribbon week, helping recognize our other helpful PTA members, and will be assisting with our Rossmoor Carnival later this month.  Thank you Amanda for fulfilling these huge roles!

When Amanda is not working as a Pediatric Nurse, she is usually on a sports field cheering on her three little athletes, whether it is soccer, baseball, softball or Friday Night Lights. She's a true team player with the PTA and with the family's busy sports schedule.  She also enjoys spending time with her family and friends and loves to go camping.

Amanda, we are so grateful to have you and your family as part of the Rossmoor community! We appreciate all that you do for our Knights and Rossmoor PTA. Thank you for all that you do!
